Morrisons cutting food prices by HALF but there’s a catch for shoppers

Morrisons is taking on Tesco Clubcard by launching discounts only for loyalty card users.

Morrisons is rolling out a big promotion in all its stores from this week for users of My Morrisons, the supermarket’s loyalty card scheme.

With Christmas on the horizon, many of the deals are for sweets and treats, but the supermarket says more offers are in the pipeline.

Adverts for the new scheme began appearing in supermarkets from last weekend.

The new discounts ask shoppers to “scan and save”, by using apps or physical My Morrisons cards, to get money off.

Money-off deals are available on ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s – half price for people using the discount scheme.

Other offers are two-for-£6 deals on chocolate tubs like Celebrations, Heroes and Quality Street.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: “We’ve recently introduced exclusive deals for My Morrisons members and this week are running a My Morrisons Exclusive ‘two for £6’ confectionery tub offer.

The type of offer available, and the categories that we run the offers on, will evolve as we continue to listen to customer feedback.”

The deal is similar to one run by Tesco, where Clubcard users get exclusive discounts not available to other shoppers.

Earlier this year Morrisons changed its loyalty scheme to make it easier to save money.

The supermarket changed its regular offers to include more of the things customers have said they want – including meat and dairy products.

It also launched a category of ‘surprise offers’ – like discounts on flowers at Mother’s Day.

Morrisons also brought in a “Basket Bonus”.

When a customer scans the app or swipes their loyalty card they have a chance to bag a bonus offer.

Morrisons also changed up the look and feel of the My Morrisons app to make it quicker and easier to use.

Last week The Mirror reported that Morrisons is giving away free hot meals to anybody who wants or needs it – they’ll just need to visit any of its cafés and mention a code word to claim it.

The supermarket is teaming up with Heinz to celebrate founder Henry J Heinz.

“Shoppers can claim a free Heinz Beanz meal at any of Morrisons 397 cafes nationwide by “asking for Henry”.

The offer runs until November 6 while stocks last, with a limit of one meal per customer per day.

The supermarket is hoping to dish out over 160,000 free meals across its 397 Morrisons cafés.

The free meals will be open to anyone with no questions asked.

Heinz will also be donating 100,000 meals to charity Magic Breakfast to help feed children at risk of starting the day hungry in the UK.

Check with your local Morrisons café to see the terms and conditions.
